Itchy, hairless winter fur

My beagle keeps getting very itchy and he scratches his fur off all winter long. I've tried different shampoos that are supposed to be soothing for his skin, but they don't seem to work. I feel bad because he just seems so uncomfortable itching all day long. Is there something else that I can try ei...

Re: Outdoor Kitties becoming indoor kitties

It definitely is much safer for a pet to be indoors. That is where my cats have always lived. How did yours end up adjusting? I've never had to take an older cat and train them to be indoors instead of out. The closest thing I've done to this is when someone drops off a stray and I decide to adopt i...

Re: Going outside the litter box

I had this problem with two of my cats as they got older. I always keep the litter box nice and clean for them, but it's like they forget to get all the way in before they go. They do sell some litter boxes that have higher sides and backs to them, which does work. I found that the best box was the ...

Re: Swollen, red eyes

We actually ended up taking him to the vet since ours looks at small animals too. She told us that he has a Vitamin K deficiency and that we have to give him this vitamin orally every other day until it clears up. After we get that taken care of then he has to have it once a week. I'm happy to repor...

Re: Roundworms In A Puppy

I know that it's fairly common for puppies to get roundworms especially if the mother had them. I'm not sure why she continues to get them, though. Is it possible that she has eaten an animal that was infected? Also, is your daughter using some kind of heartworm medication after she gets the roundwo...

Re: Do You Worry More As Your Pet Ages?

I worry about this all of the time. As you may know, I just lost my 12-year-old cat a week ago and only 3 months before that I lost my 15-year-old cat. I know that the younger one was due to a health condition, but it really made me wonder if the condition was made worse by losing the other one. Tho...

Feeling sad and guilty

Over the weekend we lost our black cat named Shadow. He was 12 1/2 years old and was just recently diagnosed with liver cancer. We are all having a very hard time getting over the loss of him even though we knew it was coming. He was such an amazing cat and loved anyone that was near him. I feel a s...

Re: My horse

Having a pet for so many years really does make them part of your family and life. I had a Calico cat that I got when I was 8 years old as a kitten and she stuck with me all through my childhood and even until my late twenties right after I had my first child. She was with us for almost 22 years and...

Re: Scratching the wallpaper

My little one has just started doing this too. For him, though, it's because he likes to stretch on the wall, which turns into digging to show off. The best ways that I've found to stop them from digging where they're not supposed to is to clap my hands when I catch them scratching and redirect them...

Re: Puppy With Attachment Issues

Do you think this would be a form of separation anxiety, even though you aren't technically leaving her alone? My dog had this issue and the only way we've been able to correct it is to have him spend time alone in his crate where he can't see us. We gradually increased the amount of time that he sp...
