Tiptoes only sits for treats!

Postby whiteTiptoes » Mon Nov 30, 2015 6:53 pm

My dog is named 'Tiptoes' and I have a bit of a training issue: I trained her with treats and now she'll only do what you tell her when she can see a treat in your hand. How do I break her of this?

That sounds like something tough to break once you have it started. Maybe it isn't all bad since she does do what you want. Have you asked the vet? I'll bet he knows or can refer you to someone who does. Good luck.

No, I haven't asked our vet for advice. I've considered taking her to a local PetSmart training seminar, though. It's not all bad but I'd like for her to understand that I expect her to follow commands even when she can't see or smell a treat.

Oh no! I think she is pretty smart. I would try taking her to a class. I think most times you use treats there too. Tiptoes is a smart puppy.
