We recently moved into a house that has a decorative koi pond. There were no fish in it when we got the house and we didn't want to spend a lot of money on koi, so I just picked up a dozen goldfish at the pet store and they're doing great. The pond is supposed to get covered with netting in the fall to keep the leaves out of it, but our landscaper told us the fish won't survive the winter because the weight of the leaves will suffocate them. This is my first experience with a decorative pond, so I'm looking for suggestions about how to get these fish through the winter.
